Anxiety is a tricky thing. It goes hand in hand with fear and worry and can manifest itself in many different ways and in many different situations- yet, all we have to do is give it to the Lord and he handles it.
But as easy as that one simple task is, we often forget the second part of verse 6- thanking Him.
We are selfish people and just want that quick “Jesus, help me with _______” prayer to do the trick. But, y’all, without purposefully thanking Him for what he has done, we are missing out on the rest of His goodness!
Philippians 4:7 goes on to tell us than once we ask and give thanks, “then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
We were created to praise. More specifically, we were created to praise the One who created us, makes old into new and so desires to rescue us when we’re hurting! Why would we want to miss out on all of that goodness by simply not giving Him the thanks and praise He is so deserving of?
I will be the first to admit how frequently I forget to give thanks, but if I’m being honest, my most fruitful moments with the Lord are when I simply close my eyes and thank Him for everything I can think of. I am so good at asking Him to do things, but I’m learning that being good at thanking Him is so much better…
